20th Edition Closes in Abu Dhabi; Preliminary Figures Show Strong Growth Over Previous Years

Event Facilitates Knowledge Exchange on a Global Scale

Decision Makers and Experts Discuss Critical Issues Facing Oil and Gas Sector

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) has closed the doors on its biggest-ever edition, further consolidating its position as an essential meeting point for the world’s oil and gas industry and strengthening Abu Dhabi’s status as a global energy hub.

Preliminary figures put the overall attendance across the four days of ADIPEC 2017, at 103,000 attendees. This represents an increase of approximately 7.5 percent compared with 2016.

For its 20th edition, ADIPEC also hosted more than 2,200 exhibiting companies, 25 country pavilions, and 900 speakers. Visitors came from 135 countries. The numbers break the event’s previous records in international participation, bringing the world’s decision makers, industry leaders, and experts together in one city to address the most critical issues facing the oil and gas sector in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

As well as attracting more attendees, the conference and exhibition event itself was bigger, with the exhibition spanning 135,000 gross square metres of floor space, and the conference featuring 185 sessions covering both technical and non-technical functions in the industry, from the high-level Ministerial and Global Business Leader sessions, to the dedicated Offshore and Marine, Women in Energy, and Security in Energy sessions.

“These results demonstrate the continued and growing importance of ADIPEC to the global oil and gas industry,” said Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, CEO of Al Yasat Petroleum Operating Company Ltd., and ADIPEC 2017 Chairman. “Now more than ever, partnership and collaboration are essential to sustainable, long-term success for the oil and gas industry, as we respond to the many challenges in front of us. Once again, ADIPEC has facilitated essential knowledge exchange on a truly global level, adding substance to our theme for 2017, ‘Forging Ties, Driving Growth’.”

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, ADIPEC 2017 was hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), organised by dmg events, and supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy, Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Chamber, and the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.

For the first time, ADIPEC included the downstream petroleum industry, including refining and petrochemicals, alongside its established focus on upstream and midstream businesses, reflecting efforts by NOCs and IOCs to access revenues at each step in the value chain.

“Change has been central to the success of ADIPEC, and we are proactive in adapting the conference and exhibition to meet the evolving needs of industry stakeholders,” said Jean-Philippe Cossé, Vice President – Energy at dmg events. “We are very thankful for the support we continue to receive from the industry, and we look forward to building on our substantial success as we convene again in 2018.”

The 21st edition of ADIPEC will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 12 to 15 November 2018.
