Abu Dhabi: Silal, Abu Dhabi’s new fresh food and agritech company, has signed an agreement with Agritek LLC, a major UAE based agricultural projects developer, to build large scale agriculture projects using the latest technology solutions on Silal’s development projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This comes as part of Silal’s commitment to contribute to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy, which aims to ensure access to sufficient and high-quality food.

Agritek will support Silal in the farm upgrade project announced in November 2021, helping Silal to support Abu Dhabi farmers through technology deployment and increase the volume of high-quality, local production of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables with a goal to minimise dependency on imports.

His Excellency, Eng. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, CEO of Silal, and Sultan Al Jaberi, CEO of Agritek LLC signed the agreement at a ceremony on the sidelines of SIAL Middle East in Abu Dhabi, in which Silal is the key sponsor. The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development (DCD) in Abu Dhabi, and H.E. Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director-General of ADAFSA, and Mansour Al Mulla, Chairman of the Chief Investment Officer at ADQ, as well as senior officials from both organisations.

His Excellency, Eng. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, CEO of Silal said: “At Silal, we believe that good agricultural conditions and healthy fresh produce intersect. Adopting the latest agritech solutions to overcome the challenging agricultural conditions is a prerequisite for growing crops in harsh environments, such as the UAE’s. We are delighted to collaborate with Agritek to deploy commercially feasible technologies to maximise farming productivity and improve diversity of crop production in the UAE. This falls within our remit to introduce proven technologies suitable for desert farming – ones that help leverage the food and agriculture ecosystem in the UAE.”

Sultan Al Jaberi, CEO of Agritek said: “Agritek is guided by a vision to bring superior solutions and services to the agriculture sector in the UAE, helping local growers to maximize yield from their crops using modern technology to grow better. At Agritek, we aim to advance the future of farming and food security in the UAE using sustainable, effective, and high-tech solutions.”

Under the agreement, Agritek will develop farms for Silal and contracted farmers leveraging modern irrigation, fertigation and climate control management systems.  These technologies will provide the optimum conditions for crops to grow, increase the efficacy of resource use, and boost farms’ operational efficiency. Modern nurseries will also be built to improve the quality of seedlings and seeds provided to farmers.
