Beirut: On the occasion of the Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, that is observed in March, the LAU Medical Center- Saint John’s Hospital and LAU Medical Center- Rizk Hospital organized an open day event in collaboration with SAID NGO in their respective medical centers.

The objective of the event was to highlight the importance of routine screening for colorectal cancer in order to prevent the occurrence of the disease. As well as to promote healthy lifestyle habits that can decrease a person’s risk of developing cancer of the colon, rectum, or anus – the three distinct cancer types referred to collectively as colorectal cancer.

More than 75 people attended the open day event and benefitted from free FIT kits as a preliminary screening test for colon cancer.

In addition, attendees received free medical consultations from the Dietetic & Nutrition Department team as well as from members of the Gastrointestinal Division led by Dr. Majd Rustom at LAU Medical Center -Saint John’s Hospital and by Dr. Rajaa Chatila and Dr. Riad Azar at LAU Medical Center- Rizk Hospital.

Furthermore, individuals who received a positive FIT result were offered 50% discounts on colonoscopy.

It is important to note that colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer type worldwide and regular screening tests is the best way to protect yourself from the disease. With early detection, cancer is more treatable and preventable, by detecting abnormal growths (Polyps) that later develop into cancer.

SAID (Spread Awareness Increase (early) Detection) NGO is colorectal cancer awareness association whose mission is to increase awareness about CRC and CRC screening.
