(TAP) - The 2023-2025 Development Plan provides for the construction in the southern district of 9 primary schools, 7 middle schools and 8 secondary schools, as well as the restructuring of 4 vocational training centres, and the development of 11 houses of culture in the governorate of Gabes, said Director General of the Office of Development of the South, Khaled Hchicha, Friday, during the Regional Forum of the southern governorates on support to development.

The official added that it is also planned to develop the museum of the national movement in the governorate of Gabes, to set up 3 centres of drama and performing arts in Gabes, Medenine and Kebili, as well as to build 5 sports complexes and provide the necessary equipment for medical services in the various regional hospitals.

"The region will be equipped with 11 industrial zones," Hchicha noted, adding that the development and rehabilitation of the airports of Djerba-Zarzis, Gabes-Matmata and Gafsa- Ksar, and the border crossings of Ras Jedir, Hazwa and Dhehiba are expected, in addition to the implementation of the project of a geological park in the south-east and that of the hydraulic transport of commercial phosphates to supply the factories of the Chemical Complex of El Medhila.

In addition, a seawater desalination plant will be built in Sidi Makhlouf in Medenine, the seawater desalination plant in Djerba will be extended, and appropriate actions will be taken to protect cities from flooding and the coastline from marine erosion.

Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Said, had previously recalled that the 2023-2025 development plan aims to establish a new development model capable of creating wealth and consolidating social inclusion while allowing the country to keep up with global changes.
