RIYADH — The Ministry of Civil Service has decided that the total area of the offices of the heads of government departments should not exceed 40 sq. meters while the offices of heads of administration should be less than 33 sq. meters.

The ministry, acceding to a report in the daily Al-Watan on Sunday, said the offices to be occupied by supervisors should be about 19 sq. meters and those of regular employees should be from 7 to 10 sq. meters.

In its work environment directory, the ministry said the offices should be secured, healthy and enable the employees to do their jobs effectively. It said the offices should be properly designed, well furnished and air-conditioned, should have sufficient ventilation and good lighting and always kept clean.

The ministry said harmony should prevail in all office premises, which should be calm and quiet to help the employees do their duties properly.

It called for the beautifying offices with artificial flowers, plants and decorative paintings.

The ministry said proper, clean, beautiful and well-kept offices will nudge the employees to excel in their work, cut down the rate of absenteeism, increase productivity, raise the performance standard and ensure a healthy, safer and proper work environment.

It believes that the spacious and decorated offices will limit scope for errors, project a better picture to the visitors and augment the sense of belonging among the employees.
