Riyadh – Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily) has teamed up with Ericsson to launch Mobily Pay as a mobile financial service available to all the users in Saudi Arabia.

Mobily Pay will allow conducting customised financial services such as contactless payments, money transfers, and international remittances. This is in addition to digital card payments, cash-back, bill payments, mobile top-up, and more.

The new service, which is built on the Ericsson Wallet Platform, comes in accordance with a joint agreement between Mobily and Ericsson that was signed in 2022, according to a press release.

Meanwhile, Ericsson will evolve and enhance the Mobily Pay platform and its operations through a five-year contract, as announced on the first day of LEAP 2023 event.

CEO of Mobily Pay, Ayman Abdullah Al Eissa, said: “Mobily Pay is live and we have already witnessed its fast adoption in the Saudi market.”

Al Eissa elaborated: “It will improve the lives of Mobily Pay users by making financial services personalised, quick, secure, and easy for everyone.”

The Vice President of Ericsson Middle East and Africa, Ekow Nelson, meanwhile commented: “We are proud to enable the launch of the state-of-the-art mobile and digital financial services in an established and advanced market like Saudi Arabia.”

At the current time, over 342 million people worldwide currently use Ericsson Wallet Platform, which processes more than 2.60 billion transactions on a monthly basis.

Mobily-Ericsson partnership for AI

Mobily and Ericsson also deployed the Ericsson Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based network solution, which was announced on 6 February 2023.

The new AI-powered solution will allow predictive and automated network management for enhanced and smart end-user experiences in Saudi Arabia under the Vision 2030.

With the number of connected devices likely to grow, Ericsson’s AI-based network solution offers integrated machine learning- (ML) based 5G network diagnostics and root cause analysis, besides recommendations for superior user experiences.

Chief Technology Officer at Mobily, Alaa Malki, noted: “From people in remote locations to large gatherings, individuals often expect uninterrupted and quality connectivity. Ericsson’s Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solution enables our customers to enjoy superior and uninterrupted 5G connectivity to stay connected with loved ones or to document key moments anytime, anywhere.”

Ericsson’s Nelson said: “For numerous years, our partnership with Mobily has provided customers with assured and superior connectivity to stream live experiences and benefit from a multitude of services even in the most challenging environments.”

During the first nine months (9M) of 2022, Mobily recorded net profits after Zakat and tax worth SAR 1.05 billion, compared to SAR 751 million in 9M-21.

It is worth noting that in 2021, Mobily penned an agreement with Ericsson to recycle expired and discarded electronic devices in Saudi Arabia.
