At Dubai Derma 2018, I am greatly honored to present my scientific activity, mainly focused on the application of new technologies for ‘in vivo’ and ‘ex vivo’ quasi-histologic visualization of the skin."

On his part, Dr. Andre Mattos, Plastic Surgeon, Brazil, said, “Dubai Derma is one of the biggest skin related conference and exhibition in the MENASA region. The 18th edition is very special as it is being held in conjunction with the Asian Dermatological Congress, offering all attendees a unique opportunity to network and learn from each other’s experiences while also earning Continuous Medical Education CME points.”

He added, “At Dubai Derma 2018, I have had the opportunity to deliver key talks during a Pre-Conference course on Cutaneous Surgery, a Fellowship course on ‘Basics in Plastic Surgery’ and two conferences one each on Fat Grafting and Fillers. Dubai Derma has certainly provided a great platform for the exchange of knowledge and expertise, which is not-to-be-missed, unique and unforgettable for visitors and participants.”

On the 2nd day of the Dubai Derma Conference, world renowned experts and specialists in skincare discussed a number of key topics in skincare including new methodologies and latest treatment mechanisms for major skin problems and diseases such as ‘Update on Phototherapy’, ‘Adverse Cutaneous Drug Reactions’, ‘An Evidence Based Medicine Approach in Dermatology’, ‘Psoriasis’, ‘Ultraviolet Rays on the skin and its impact on brain function’, Contact Dermatitis to Cosmetics and Effect of Narrow Band Ultraviolet B in Vitiligo Patients’ among other topics.

According to World Health Organization, ultraviolet UV related illnesses and deaths have been on the rise over the past decade across the world, with an estimated 60,000 deaths a year attributed to exposure to UV rays including 48,000 deaths caused by malignant melanomas and 12,000 by skin carcinomas. WHO studies even suggest that one in every 3 cases of diagnosed cancers are today skin related and out of the 2-3 million non-melanoma cancers and 132,000 melanoma skin cancers, occurring globally each other, most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to UV radiation from sun or other sources such as sunbeds and sun lamps.

While sun’s UV radiation is the main cause of skin cancer, which causes skin cells to become cancer cells, experts believe that 4 out of 5 cases of skin cancer could be prevented, as UV damage is mostly avoidable. With so many scientific breakthroughs achieved in the fight against skin cancer and skin diseases including sun exposure, cutaneous lupus, sun allergies, melasma and premature skin ageing, skincare doctors and specialists suggest ‘prevention and repair’, as the right approach to deal with skin related illnesses while also advising people to find the right balance between a healthy dose of sun and over exposure, wear sunglasses and use sunblock to protect exposed skin before venturing out.

The annual Dubai World Dermatology and Laser Conference and Exhibition – Dubai Derma running until the 21st of March, 2018 is organized by INDEX Conferences & Exhibitions - a member of INDEX Holding, in cooperation with the Pan Arab League of Dermatology, Arab Academy of Dermatology & Aesthetics (AADA) and GCC League of Dermatologists with the support of the Government of Dubai and Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
