ArabFinance: Egypt announced 674 more COVID-19 infections on January 24th, taking the total count to 161,817 since the pandemic started last year.

The ministry reported 57 additional fatalities, bringing the death toll to 8,959.

The country now has 126,497 total recoveries after 321 new patients were discharged from COVID-19 hospitals, the statement added.

The number of daily cases in the Arab republic has been below the 1,000 mark since January 9th.

The vaccination program has officially started in Egypt, with frontline health workers getting the first batch of Sinopharm vaccine at over 40 hospitals nationwide. Abu Khalifa hospital in Ismailia was the first facility to start with.

Egyptian authorities approved in the beginning of January the emergency use of the Chinese vaccine against the virus.
