OPEC member Iraq is considering an offer by an international firm to build a waste recycling plant in the capital Baghdad for waste disposal and power generation, the local press reported on Monday.

The company submitted the proposal to the Iraqi Electricity Ministry, which found that power supply from the project is too high at around $160 per MW.

“The Ministry is now discussing the project with Baghdad Municipality...there is a proposal that the Municipality could pay part of the supply cost so it will be affordable in order to launch the project,” said Amjad Al-Iqabi, a member of the Energy and Oil Commission at Iraq’s Parliament.

Quoted by Aliqtisad News network, Iqabi did not identify that firm or provide project details but said another proposal includes supplying the project with fuel by the Iraqi Oil Ministry to ensure its feasibility.
