Global engineering consultancy Egis announced on Monday that it has been awarded a contract by Qatar's Public Works Authority - Ashghal - to provide post-contract professional consultancy services in connection with designing, building, operating and maintaining the Integrated Industrial Wastewater Treatment Works (IIWWTW), Phase I in capital Doha.

The contract of undisclosed value, signed earlier this year, engages a team of 18 professionals for a period of over four years to support Ashgal with project management, design review and work supervision services for the Authority's infrastructure projects aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, according to the Egis press statement.

The statement said the Integrated Industrial Wastewater Treatment Works Phase I (IIWWTW) will provide treatment for up to 10,000 cubic metres/day of tankered industrial wastewater from light industries located within the fast-developing Doha Industrial Area catchment.

Egis said the IIWWTW Phase I facility will be designed with the flexibility to treat the range of influent characteristics representative of industrial activities in the catchment to Treated Industrial Effluent (TIE) standards.

It will be constructed approximately 2km Southwest of Doha Industrial Area, in the vicinity of the existing Industrial Area Sewerage Treatment Works (Phase 1 & 2A and extension 2B) in order to minimise cost and footprint, and allow for proximity to the existing and new deep injection wells for blended treated effluent disposal.

"Our experience and know-how are highly valued by Ashghal, and we are honoured to be part of country's strategic infrastructure projects," said Philippe Berthet, Regional Director for Major Structures, Water, Environment and Energy, Egis.

The statement noted that the company has previously worked on Industrial Area Sewage Treatment Plant, Al Karaana Rehabilitation, TSE Seasonal Lagoon and Doha West Sewage Treatment Plant projects in the Gulf state.
