Iraq’s Ministry of Transport announced the completion of the basic design and route for Baghdad Elevated Train project (BET), also called the Baghdad Metro.

The media office of the Ministry of Transport told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the BET project is among the important transport projects targeted for implementation this year, and is included in the current year's budget.

In December 2022, Zawya Projects had reported that work on BET, which comprises 14 stations with a total length of 31 kilometres, is due to start in the next two years.

In October 2020, a consortium of Alstom and Hyundai Engineering & Construction, signed a Memorandum of Intent with the Ministry of Transport to define a framework to accelerate project implementation.
