UAE, Dubai, December 16, 2012
Saudia Dairy and Foodstuff Company (SADAFCO), a leading manufacturer of an extensive range of nutritious dairy and foodstuff items for consumers of all age groups has announced that its manufacturing facility in Jeddah has been awarded the prestigious ISO 22000:2005 food safety management certification by INTERTEK - MOODY INTERNATIONAL.
The Jeddah Factory certification follows closely behind the achievement of the same accreditation accorded to the Jeddah Ice Cream Factory at the beginning of the year. ISO 22000:2005 specifies requirements for a food safety management system where an organization in the food chain needs to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe at the time of human consumption.
Upon receiving the certification, Raffael Reinders, Director Manufacturing, said, "SADAFCO's manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia maintain high quality standards that are aimed at manufacturing superior products for our consumers. The ISO certification awarded to our Jeddah factory is a reflection of our commitment to comply with applicable statutory and regulatory food safety requirements that confirm the trust that our valued consumers have placed in our products for more than three decades."
Mr Reinders added, "The process of preparing, auditing and certifying factories with ISO 22000 Standards has been a priority for SADAFCO. The two facilities in Jeddah have now been certified and our next target will be to achieve similar recognition for the recently re-opened Dammam Factory."
SADAFCO's manufacturing facility in Jeddah is 11 500 m² in area and it manufactures UHT milk and juices. The factory currently has an employee strength of 197 permanent staff members.
The ISO 22000:2005 certification is applicable to all organizations, regardless of size, which are involved in any aspect of the food chain and want to implement systems that consistently provide safe products. The means of meeting any requirements of ISO 22000:2005 can be accomplished through the use of internal and/or external resources.
ISO (International Standards Organization) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) with abilities to set standards that often become law, either through treaties or national standards. In practice, ISO also acts as a consortium with strong links to governments.
