40 per cent reduction in UAE concrete production figures drives industry to boost efficiency

MAPEI, global leader in the production of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for buildings, has announced that it has recently launched its new concrete admixture product line that has been specifically developed to help address technical and efficiency issues in the concrete industry, especially in the UAE where a 40 per cent cut in concrete production has driven the industry to focus on maximising efficiency. MAPEI revealed that the new concrete admixture product line could also help to produce "greener" concrete as it minimises energy use during mixing, application and finishing and reduces cement and water content, resulting in lower carbon footprint.

Aside from complementing the growing focus on sustainable development in the region, MAPEI disclosed that the new admixture product line features special properties that make it a perfect match for the region's demanding climatic conditions. To support its expanding market base, particularly in the UAE, MAPEI also announced that it has recently completed the construction and commissioning of its state-of-the-art admixture manufacturing facility on its production site at Dubai Investment Park (DIP), while a fully equipped concrete laboratory, which will provide the latest in technical support for regional concrete technologists, is nearing completion.

Laith Haboubi, Business Development Director, IBS-MAPEI, said: "MAPEI is globally committed to sustainable products and the environment as today we count 15 different product lines that cater to different markets worldwide. The launch of our newest line of admixtures represents our continuing strategy of identifying the distinct needs of each target market and developing products that both add value and improve performance. Through Mapei's extensive research and product development program, we have been able to develop this high technology range of admixtures which in many cases can assist with the production of higher quality, higher performance concrete and can also help to produce 'greener' concrete that perfectly suits the region's demanding climatic conditions."

"The new product line retains the distinctive qualities of all our other admixtures and additives when it comes to enhancing performance of concrete both during and after casting. This can range from such attributes as flowability, set times and even surface finish. Furthermore, to underline our commitment to the GCC market, we have recently completed an extension to our current manufacturing facility and are in the process of commissioning a concrete laboratory to strengthen our regional operations. This will be an important part of our offering to the market as we believe that Mapei's ability to provide the highest level of technical support is fundamental to the adoption of this product range," added Haboubi.

MAPEI's new admixture line is expected to be as popular in the regional markets as the company's other green-certified construction materials, especially given that several countries in the region have been recognised as among the world's top 10 in waste production. The construction industry in particular has been a leading contributor to the region's growing waste levels as it produces around 66 million tonnes of waste, representing 55 per cent of the 120 million tonnes of waste produced in the GCC. Mapei is therefore well positioned to assist companies and projects with the will to use products that offer greater efficiencies, therefore ensuring sustainability in the long term.

MAPEI admixtures have been used  in some of the most challenging construction projects in the world including the three gorges dam in China, The Milan-Bologna High speed rail link, the Troll platform in the North Sea, Singapore Metro, and Munich Airport,  to name a few.
