Dubai-based installation materials specialist brings top UK wireless alarm system to Middle East to meet higher safety standards

An innovative wireless fire safety system of the kind used in London's Heathrow Airport and favoured by over 75% of UK construction firms is to become available across the Middle East following an agreement between Dubai-based Liberty Building Solutions FZE and Britain's Ramtech Electronics

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Against the background of rising safety requirements in the region, Liberty Building Solutions has signed an exclusive agreement with manufacturers Ramtech to distribute the WES+ wireless fire alert system, specifically developed to meet increasing health and safety legislation for construction sites.

Liberty will distribute the WES+ system to the UAE market, where fire safety regulations have been updated by Dubai Civil Defence in their UAE Fire and Life Safety Code.

In 2016 Liberty Building Solutions FZE was granted the exclusive distribution rights to the premium quality range of brands for installation materials, electrical cable protection systems and wiring accessories across the region.  Since then, it has successfully supplied many ongoing construction projects and is well placed at numerous up and coming prestigious developments in the GCC region.

WES+ is Europe’s leading wireless fire alarm system. If just one call point is activated it sounds a site-wide alarm, allowing personnel to evacuate to safety. The WES+ signal is capable of passing through solid materials found on site including steel, masonry and concrete. The interlinked call points create a completely secure, wireless network, ensuring all areas receive the same audible signal.

Ramtech Electronics’ WES+ wireless fire alarm system was chosen by the management team at Liberty because it complies with EN 54, the harmonised international standard relating to fire detection and fire alarm systems. This met the company’s stated goal of only distributing the leading products in each category in which it has a presence.

The management team at Liberty were also impressed by the fact that WES+ is specifically engineered for use on construction sites. This means it incorporates a number of usability features that will appeal to its customers, such as wireless operation, three-year battery life and ability to add or remove alarm units with just a few button presses.

WES+ uses Category 1, Euro-harmonised radio in compliance with European standards covering the use of radio technology in emergency equipment (ETSI 300-220-1), meaning it won’t interfere with existing technologies on site or in nearby buildings.

Being wireless also avoids trailing wires, eliminating trip hazards on site and making it much easier to reposition units as construction or demolition work progresses. WES+ is suitable for construction sites of all sizes, ranging from individual buildings to several hectares.

WES+ is currently used by over 75 percent of the top 100 UK construction companies to protect personnel and assets from fire on site.

“We took the decision to distribute WES+ in the UAE because it is EN 54 compliant,” said Richard Botting Managing Director of Liberty Building Solutions. “Our own research confirmed that this is the de-facto standard for fire alarms on construction sites.  WES+ also incorporates many usability features that we have not found in other systems.”

He added: “Fire on construction sites is a serious concern for all our customers, especially in high rise buildings where instantly being alerted to a fire can saves lives. WES+ now provides our customers with a technology-based solution for reducing these risks on site. Developers that specify WES+ are demonstrating that they take their responsibilities to employees and their clients’ assets seriously.”

Fire on construction projects is an ever present danger to personnel, assets and people living or working nearby. WES+ addresses this because if just one manual call point or automatic heat/smoke detector is activated it triggers a site-wide alarm, allowing workers to safely evacuate to designated muster points.

Paul Henson, Director at Ramtech Electronics, said: “WES+ has the ability to transform fire safety on construction sites. In distributing WES+ in the UAE, Liberty will have created a step change in fire safety for developers and contractors enabling them to meet the more stringent requirements of the 2017 UAE Fire & Life safety code.”
