Dubai, UAE: Italy continues to be one of the most important UAE’s trade partners when it comes to products and equipments for the dental sector. Up to October 2022, 33 milion euros were exported from Italy, with an increase of 70% on the same period of the previous year (total exported value in 2021 was 24.2 mln euros) and reconfirming Italy as the 6th largest supplier to the Emirates.

A representation of the Italian Oral and Dental manufacturing industry is hosted at the Italy Pavilion at the AEEDC 2023 Dubai Exhibition until February 9th. Organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and UNIDI (the Italian Dental Industry Association),  the Italy Pavilion gathers 39 Italian companies in Hall 4 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Italian dental sector is one of the best practices of the Italian manufacturing industry. With a turnover of Euro 1.2 biillion in 2021, the Italian production sector has recovered what lost in 2020 with a 31% increase in turnover, even exceeding the values of 2019 by 13.5%. The average annual growth rate is 5%, well above the trend of the other manufacturing sectors.

On international markets, the Italian dental industry has confirmed its leadership thanks to a production appreciated throughout the world for the reliability of its components, the cutting-edge technological solutions and the very pleasant design. Almost 60% of the Italian production is absorbed by foreign markets with 742 million euro exported (2021), an average annual growth rate by 6%, , an overall increase of the export by 80% over the last 10 years (2011 to 2021).

Main export drivers are: equipments, in particular those for radiology and dental units; consumer products;  implantology.

Lorenzo Fanara, Ambassador of Italy to the UAE, said: “Italian products are recognized globally for their quality and reliability. Italian dental products are a clear example of that, combining world class technology with attention to design and to healthy lifestyles. Last year marked an incredible recovery for the dental manufacturing sector, which has now a 5% annual growth rate. It is also one of Italy’s most export-oriented sectors. With Italy already being the main European trading partner for the UAE, AEECD will create opportunities for even stronger connections between Italy and the UAE in a sector focussed on innovation, technology and design. “

Amedeo Scarpa, Italian Trade Commissioner to the UAE said, “ “Made in Italy” is a guarantee of high quality and reliability also in this sector. AEEDC fair offers an incredible opportunity to consolidate and further expand the presence of Italian dental products in the MENA region.  Flexibility is the first added value of the Italian offer, together with Sustainability. CO2 emissions, plastics use, waste generation and other environmental impacts are major challenges at all levels of the dental resource supply chain as well as in care delivery. Under the motto Sustainability is Sustainab-ITALY we want to encourage Emirati partners to explore additional opportunities of cooperation with their  Italian suppliers towards an even more eco-conscious approach and circular production also in this industry. This will represent one of the concrete contribution of Italian industry at next COP28 which will be held in the UAE by the end of 2023”.

Commenting on the participation at AEEDC, Fabio Velotti, UNIDI President. “Coming back here to AEEDC means a lot for the whole Italian industry and in particular for UNIDI, the association I am honored to represent, which brings together the best in the sector. The dental industry, the same that meets every year in Italy at the Rimini Expodental Meeting in May, right here in Dubai last year showed strength and resilience and is ready to reap the well-deserved benefits in 2023”
