A Dubai developer has launched a new hotel, but this one offers something a little out of the ordinary. Guests can expect to be welcomed by a "sickly stench", relax to the sound of hair-raising screams and will be discouraged from mingling with other residents.

Guests should enter at their own risk when the "spooktacular" Haunted Hotel opens on August 15 at IMG Worlds of Adventure, billed as the world's largest indoor theme park in Dubai.

"It is one long nightmare of distress and despair from the moment you arrive", promised a statement from IMG Worlds of Adventure.

"We are thrilled to be launching The Haunted Hotel, which will offer our guests a spine-tingling time, leaving lasting memories which they will hope to forget," said CEO Lennard Otto.

The hotel, operated by family conglomerate Ilyas and Mustafa Galadari Group, will be part of IMG Worlds of Adventure's bid to break even in its first year of operation. The $1 billion theme park will have four adventure zones that include brands from Cartoon Network and Walt Disney Co's Marvel Entertainment and a dinosaur area. Rides will feature characters such as Hulk and the Powerpuff Girls.

The park is aiming to attract 4.5 million visitors in its first year of operation and will generate revenue of 1.5 billion dirhams ($408 million) to 1.7 billion dirhams ($463 million), Mohamed Adnaan, IMG Group chief financial officer, told reporters at a press event last month.
