MUSCAT -- Dr Mazin Jawad Jaffer al Khabori, Senior Consultant, Otolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon, will be addressing the local medical fraternity on Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea at the 5th session of the MPH Doctrain CME, scheduled this evening at the Crowne Plaza Muscat. Dr Mazin (pictured), a reputed ENT specialist from Al Nahda Hospital was recently awarded the coveted Karl Storz Award for Excellence in teaching, for his untiring commitment to advancing CMEs for Otolaryngologists in the GCC and the Middle East, held in Dubai.
"Obstructive sleep apnea is a significant medical problem affecting up to four per cent of middle-aged adults. The most common complaints are loud snoring, disrupted sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness. Patients with apnea suffer from fragmented sleep and may develop cardiovascular abnormalities because of the repetitive cycles of snoring, airway collapse and arousal," says Dr Mazin.
"The 'Doctrain' programme held on a monthly basis reaffirms our commitment to provide continuous medical education to the doctors in Oman. Continuing Medical Education (CME) plays a critical role in the healthcare system. Medical school is merely the start of a physician's education; however, physicians need to remain current in the decades following completion of their formal education. With the rapid growth in medical information, the importance of CME is increasing, not diminishing," commented Gerard Strong, Muscat Private Hospital's Director.
