Roads and Transport Authority - Nashwan Atta'ee:

A delegation from the University of Sharjah has recently visited the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai to review the best practices adopted in asset management starting from the stage of planning for the procurement of new assets and several other stages such as tracking, stocktaking, numbering and replacing of assets. Visitors also learnt about the features of the system adopted by the Department for monitoring RTA's assets at excellent standards.

Starting the meeting, Abdul Rahman Al Janahi, Director of Assets Management, RTA's Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector, welcomed the visiting delegation, noting that RTA is always keen to foster relations with various entities including academic institutions such as universities & colleges. "In particular, RTA seeks to share expertise & knowledge in fields of relevance to asset sustainability, considering it a wealth and a capital ought to be preserved and optimally maximized.

"During the gathering, we gave visitors a full account of RTA's asset management practices, procedures and future plans especially that we work as a team to improve the performance, and achieve sustainability of key assets in order to ensure the continuity of services. RTA owns a diverse cast of assets such as roads, bridges, tunnels, metro, buses, taxis, and marine transit modes among others, and had charted out plans for their sustainability for years to come," said Al Janahi.

During the meeting a visual presentation was made giving full details of RTA's organizational chart, strategic plans as well as goals, objectives and initiatives related to asset management, organizational structure of the Department & Sections, roles & responsibilities, asset lifecycle strategy, and future objectives pursued by the Department towards upgrading the existing systems to ensure asset sustainability.

Visitors were also familiarized with the procurement process of new assets in addition to procedures relating to stocktaking, protecting, registration, numbering and scrapping of the existing assets.

The visiting delegation praised this effective communication with RTA's Asset Management Department, and for giving the University of Sharjah an opportunity to review the business process of the Department. The delegation was acquainted with the implementation of systems compliant with the world's highest standards, and visitors commended the extensive experience owned by RTA in various fields of relevance.
