ArabFinance: Egypt has implemented the first phase of the light rail transit (LRT) mega project at a cost of $1.30 billion, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said in a statement.

The first phase has been carried out in Alexandria and is comprised six rail cars that each can transport up to 600 passengers per trip, Madbouli noted.

This project is a part of an integrated transportation system executed by the Egyptian government across the country, the minister pointed out.

The government is keen on finalizing the entire project, which will extend over 100 kilometers, over the coming period, he added.

Moreover, the government currently targets the completion of the projects implementation works by the end of October 2021, in order to start the trial operation within the following three months, Madbouli highlighted.

These comments were made on the sidelines of the ministers tour at the LRT projects location in Alexandria.

Through this tour, the minister monitored that the works at the LRT project, which links all the new urban communities in Cairo starting from Adly Mansour station to the New Administrative Capital.
