Social media is not merely a tool for interaction with friends and family. It is also a source for the corporate world to have direct access with their consumers.

Similarly, consumers also take photos of these brands while having a meal at their favourite restaurant or shopping for their favourite gadgets and share it on social media platforms - especially Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. A recent study revealed that Emirates airline has been ranked fifth after McDonald's, Nike, Adidas and Coca-Cola among the world's top 100 brands most visible on social media, revealed a report from Brandwatch, a social media monitoring firm.

Emirates was the sole carrier from the aviation world that made it to the top 50. Emirates flew past American giants such as Google and Apple who were ranked sixth and seventh respectively in terms of visibility. Amazon, Puma and Sky were the last three most visible brands on social media.

As per the recently-released Best Brand Rankings by YouGov BrandIndex, Emirates topped the consumer brand sentiment in the UAE for the third year running, surpassing WhatsApp, iPhone, Samsung, Facebook and YouTube among others.

On average, nearly 478,000 unique images of Emirates were posted on Twitter and Instagram as against 445,880 of Apple, 129,140 of Toyota, 106,020 of Samsung, 85,070 of Mercedes-Benz among others.

"Carlsberg, Nissan and Emirates generate the highest volumes of images from male authors, mainly due to sponsorships of male-dominated sports," the report said.

Nearly 100 million images posted on Twitter and Instagram were searched to reveal which brands appeared the most on the two platforms.
