Work on the Mosul airport project in Iraq's Nineveh Province and Nasiriyah airport in Dhi Qar Governorate will start before the end of 2021, a spokesperson of the Iraqi planning ministry told Zawya Projects.

Abdulzahra Al -Hindawi said the announcement was made by the Minister of Planning Khaled Battal Al-Najm, during his visit to the Mosul airport's site. He said the minister also assured that the Mosul Airport project would be included in the 2021 budget.

In February 2021, France's ADP Ingénierie had announced that it has signed an agreement with Iraqi Civil Aviation for studies aiming at launching the reconstruction of Mosul airport.

In September 2019, Zawya had reported that Nasiriyah airport project had been awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

The foundation stone for the Nasiriyah airport was laid in June 2021.
