Dubai’s Emirates is restarting flights to three international airports in the Philippines after concerns over the Delta variant prompted months-long suspension of services.

The airline said on Wednesday it has resumed seven weekly services to and from the country’s capital, Manila, while five weekly services to Clark and twice weekly trips to Cebu are now open for booking.

The Philippines is a major market for the UAE long-haul operator. Flights between the UAE and the Philippines were first suspended last May due to concerns over the Delta variant. The travel ban was later extended a few times.

Just this month, the Asian state announced it would lift the ban effective September 6.

Emirates’ services to all three airports in the Philippines are operated with the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

The airline clarified that, as mandated by the authorities, restrictions still apply on the number of passengers per flight to points in the Philippines.

In addition to the commercial flights, the UAE airline also said it will operate special “Bayanihan” flights to Manila on September 18 and 25 to accommodate Filipinos who wish to fly home from the UAE.

The special flights are open only to Filipino citizens.
