Bahrain’s mosques will not reopen until the coronavirus caseload drops in the country, said the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
Chaired remotely by Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the panel stressed the necessity of waiting before resuming collective prayers.
Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, who also heads the National Taskforce to Combat Coronavirus, and Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa attended.
The remote meeting was also attended by Sunni Endowments Council chairman Dr Shaikh Rashid Al Hajiri and Jaafari Endowments head Yusuf bin Saleh Al Saleh.
The meeting spotlighted latest developments related to Covid-19 and discussed visions on holding collective prayers in Bahrain and listened to a detailed presentation by the SCH president on the pandemic, its statistics in the kingdom and the recommendations of the specialised medical authorities in this respect.
The Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister, the Sunni Endowments Council and Jafari Endowments Council chairmen briefed the audience on the possible pre-emptive measures.
The decision will be reviewed periodically every two weeks according to new developments and statistics.
