Mega-events structure and overlay specialist, Losberger De Boer recently pulled off a historic effort by providing the event overlay and temporary infrastructure for a major camel festival in Saudi Arabia.

Crown Prince Camel Festival - the world's largest camel sporting event - saw over 11,000 camels participating in 787 rounds of recently and subsequently won a Guinness World Record for being the largest ever event of its type. Over $14m (Dh52m) worth of prizes were awarded for camel attractiveness, speed, and breeding.

Dignitaries and royal families from across the Middle East region attended the 42-day event. As the country modernises, the festival organiser's aim is to continue showcasing and boosting the camel-racing heritage in Saudi Arabia and across the Gulf region. The festival consists of four phases, with camels reaching up to 40kph at top speeds in races, creating a compelling sight for spectators.

Also featured were cultural, sports and entertainment activities as well as educational workshops for camel owners and visitors.

For the event industry, a unique aspect of the occasion was that Losberger De Boer built the entire temporary structure and event overlay in record time - only eight days in the Taif desert near Riyadh. The event used the company’s Delta Double Decker product, covering a surface of 30m x 25m together with a 5m outdoor spectator balcony for camel race viewing.

Jim Muldoon, managing director of Losberger De Boer Middle East commenting the festival’s success said, “We extend our congratulations to the event organisers, Crown Prince Camel Festival for winning the Guinness World Record. We are proud to be associated with such an iconic event that has generated global news. In the Middle East and around the world, we are seeing a move away from traditional canvas-sided tents as event structures and an increasing demand for more sophisticated, permanent-look structures. This is an area of specialisation for Losberger De Boer.”

“Event organisers and visitors rarely want to see standard A-frame tents these days. Instead, inspirational semi-permanent buildings are expected, with floor-to-ceiling glazing, clear roof sails, mezzanine floors, and even double and triple storey buildings with balconies. There is an ever-increasing demand for high specification and design-led temporary event overlay and this trend is expected to grow as Vision 2030, the Saudi Arabian national transformation programme advances, where some of the most innovative and unique temporary structures the world has to offer will be unveiled. Losberger De Boer is driving these innovations forward and is committed to being at the forefront of improving event structure standards in Saudi Arabia and throughout the Gulf region,” concluded Muldoon.

With over 500 projects every year, Losberger De Boer also delivers the world’s largest temporary event overlay for the bi-annual Farnborough Airshow in the UK and installs temporary structures annually at the largest global trade fair, Bauma, in Germany. Last year, Losberger De Boer also built the Middle East’s largest temporary exhibition hall, Bay X at King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia.
