• Careem and Hala will donate 1 AED for every ride taken and food order placed

Dubai, UAE: Careem and Hala are leveraging their technologies, communities and a new partnership with UNICEF to support people in India fighting COVID-19. For the next two weeks, for every Careem or Hala ride and every Careem food order in the UAE, the companies will donate 1 AED to UNICEFs efforts to bring life-saving oxygen and rapid PCR tests to people in need in India.

Ibrahim Manna, Careem’s Managing Director of Markets said, ”There are incredibly strong ties between India and the UAE and as India faces a COVID crisis, people in our community want to help. Careem is trying to do its part by donating for every ride and every food order, leveraging our technology to support UNICEF’s lifesaving efforts.”

Basil Hovakeemian, CEO of Hala said, “At the core of Hala’s purpose is a promise to do good. Not just things that are good for business, but good for all. We are very proud to be making this commitment to support India in their hour of extreme need, and support a country which so many of our Captains and riders call home. For these individuals, and indeed everyone who rides with us, we hope each trip can now be a source of pride - knowing that for every ride a donation is being made to this important cause.”

Asma Rafiq, Partnerships Specialist at UNICEF said, “UNICEF is working tirelessly in communities across India to help tackle the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the country faces this rapidly worsening second wave, UNICEF is supporting the Government, WHO and other partners, and we urgently need funds to help save lives by boosting access to critical oxygen therapy and accurate testing. We appreciate the donations from Careem and Hala and encourage everyone who can to give generously to help us provide lifesaving oxygen generators and urgently needed rapid PCR testing machines.”
