Oman fencing committee (OFC) is gearing up to organise the Oman Fencing championship which will take place on Saturday at the Indoor hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

The one-day event will feature participation of 40 fencers representing seven clubs including: Muscat, Oman club, Al Nahdha, Qurayat, Al Shabab, Ahli Sidab and Salalah. Oman Fencing championship is the first national championship since formation of OFC.

The national fencing event will witness Men’s Epee category competition and Foil’s ladies category. The championship will target all the junior and youth fencers in the clubs.

The preliminary rounds and finals will take place in the morning sessions while the ceremony and delivering the awards will be during evening session.

The purpose of the initial edition of the championship is to provide a suitable environment of competition among the fencers. Also, to give a chance for all the new fencers to enter in the mood of the competitions and select the potential for the national teams.

Five umpires from the Sultanate will officiate the competitions while the head coach of the national fencing team Hisham Karshood will be the technical head of the event. Presence of the Tunisian coach during the championship is very significant to evaluate the fencers performance and instructing them to enhance the positive sides and improve the weakness areas.

OFC is working hard to finalise all the technical and logistical preparations ahead of the commencement the first edition of the fencing tournament including the set up for the venue.
