Iraq needs about 2.5 million residential units to overcome the country’s housing crisis, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Planning said. 

Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi told Zawya Projects that Iraq needs at least 2.5 million housing units across all governorates to fill the housing shortage faced by the country.  

Al-Hindawi said more than 3 million citizens live in 4,000 slums and irregular settlements that contain more than 500,000 housing units with the capital Baghdad occupying the first place with more than 1,000 slums.
