A detailed traffic plan for this weekend’s 2019 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix was announced yesterday.

Director of traffic operations and traffic control department Lieutenant Colonel Adel Al Dossari said the plan includes all roads leading to the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) and the car parks.

Those arriving from Shaikh Salman Highway and the Muaskar Highway to the main Awali roundabout should continue along Zallaq road to the south Awali roundabout and pass the traffic light leading to Sakhir.

They must then continue past the Sakhir Palace roundabout, the traffic signal at the intersection near the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club and continue towards the Zallaq flyover.

There the traffic will converge with those coming from the top of the Zallaq flyover and those coming from Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman highway heading towards the Bahrain University traffic light.

They will also converge with traffic coming from Hamad Town roundabout 22 then turn left at Gulf of Bahrain road, converging with those coming from Zallaq road and then continue south towards the traffic lights of the Bahrain University west gate.

After that all they have to do is go straight and turn left at the next traffic light which will lead them into the BIC and the car parks. A special car park has been allocated for those with special needs.

Diverted

An office was set up in car park number 10 to handle minor traffic accidents and a patrol vehicle will respond to any traffic accidents on site.

On Sunday, after the end of the race, all tracks will be diverted in one direction, if necessary, from the BIC parking across Gulf of Bahrain and then on Zallaq Highway towards Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway or continue on Zallaq Road towards Awali.

As for those arriving from the Bilaj Al Jazaer and Al Areen regions, the Gulf of Bahrain Street will be inaccessible.

They must enter the Zallaq area from the traffic light of the Areen Park and then enter the Zallaq area and turn on Zaid bin Amira Street and continue to Hamad Town and exit on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway.

Hamad Town roundabouts 22 and 18 will be closed for this period but motorists can use roundabout 14 and 6 to exit onto Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway.

Meanwhile, the Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry is ensuring the readiness of the roads and sewerage networks as part of preparations for the grand prix.

Lanes have been repainted, stones paved, damaged traffic signs replaced and traffic signals cleaned.

An area of 18,000sqm has been provided for a parking lot to accommodate up to 600 cars.
