Muscat: In order to provide more jobs to Omanis, the Ministry of Manpower on Sunday announced restrictions for hiring expat workers in some sectors.

According to the ministerial resolution by Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, the Minister of Manpower said that only Omanis can work as sales representative/sales promoters and purchases representative in the private sector companies.

The ministerial resolution decided not to renew work-permit licences for expats still working in professions in which they can be easily replaced with Omanis.

In such cases the expat workers’ visas will not be extended after the expiration of the contract between him and the company to which he belongs.

However, licences for the recruitment of non-Omani workers, and work-permit licences issued for professions specified in Article 1 of this decision are valid until their expiration date.

Expat workers will not have the chance to renew their work-permit licenses as sales representatives/ sales promoters and purchases representative due to Omanisation.

However, the other professions are not included for expat workers and are still available for all workers. Anything that violates the decision or contradicts its provisions shall be cancelled, as mentioned in the ministerial resolution, to avoid facing any conflict in applying the decision in the future.
