(TAP) - Minister of Public Works, Housing and Infrastructure, Kamel Eddoukh, announced Monday evening the launch, in December 2020, of the call for tenders for the feasibility study of the bridge project linking the region of El Jorf to Djerba Ajim (governorate of Medenine).

He explained, during a plenary session at the House of the People's Representatives (HPR) devoted to dialogue with the government ministers, that the feasibility study, which will be drawn up in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, will encompass the economic, financial, social and environmental aspects of the project, given the importance of this project for the region.

He recalled that a memorandum of understanding was signed in 2018 with the Chinese company CCECC for the execution of this study and the project, except that the company in question did not take into account the remarks of the project's technical steering committee in its feasibility study.

The Chinese company thus did not make the necessary modifications to the study, on the pretext of the additional financial cost, which led to the cancellation of the memorandum of understanding in June 2019.

The memorandum of understanding signed between Tunisia and the Chinese company stipulates the creation of a technical steering committee for the project which brings together representatives of the Ministries of Transport, Public Works and Foreign Affairs under the chairmanship of the Minister of State Properties.
