Spain's natural gas imports fell 8.9% in October compared with the same month a year ago, government data showed on Monday.

Spain imported the equivalent of 36,835 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of natural gas in October, Cores, an arm of the Energy and Environment Ministry, said.

LNG shipments represented 64.3% of the total imports, the rest came through pipelines, Cores said.

Spain re-exported the equivalent of 7,003 gigawatt-hours of gas, mainly to Italy.

In October, Russian gas accounted for 11.7% of Spanish imports. (Reporting by Matteo Allievi, editing by Inti Landauro)
