Iraq is planning to build 90,000 houses in “Sadr City” in the outskirts of the capital Baghdad to provide housing for low-income citizens, press reports said on Sunday.
The project is part of a development plan for the city, involving its infrastructure and the construction of new roads to cope with an increase in its population, the official Iraqi news agency said, citing a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office.
A government team has completed the final designs for the project, which is intended to “provide housing for low-income citizens and ease the demographic pressure” on the town, formerly known as “Saddam City.”
The report said the housing project would be completed in 8 years, but it did not mention when it would be launched.
