Etihad Rail announced on Tuesday that the UAE national railway network's largest operations and maintenance (O&M) facility under construction at Al Faya in Abu Dhabi is 25 percent complete.
The update was shared at a virtual meeting of its Board of Directors, chaired by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to a press statement.
Etihad Rail said the Al Faya facility would manage warehousing, installation, and the O&M of locomotives and wagons, and include a building to house the railway's network operations.
The Board meeting welcomed the signing of the first commercial agreement under Stage 2 with the Ras Al Khaimah-based Stevin Rock to transport 3.5 million tonnes of construction material annually from the company's Al Ghail quarry to Abu Dhabi.
In March, Zawya had reported that the second stage of Etihad Railway is 34 percent complete.
