The representatives from Morocco’s public and private sectors and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) held a high-level meeting to resume talks about the Tangier Tech City project, according to a local media report.

The smart city project was launched by King Mohammed VI in 2017.

The officials are said to have studied and approved the business plan of Tangier Tech Development Company (SATT) for 2023-2027, Morocco World News reported.

Last year, Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said the project, expected to be completed by 2027, will strive to create a “sustainable, integrated, and intelligent industrial city.”

The smart city will host around 200 Chinese companies. It will include a 947-hectare industrial acceleration zone and a 1,220-hectare area for residential and tourism complexes.

In July 2022, Chinese companies and representatives from Morocco’s public and private sectors signed an agreement to start the project's construction.
