70 participants of Promising Leaders Program attend 5 days of in-depth training and coaching on the concepts behind self-learning

Mohammed Bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development (MBRPLD), an innovative leadership program designed to develop future national leaders capable of promoting the sustainable development of Dubai, has announced that it has recently launched the Personal Development Program, which is one of the components of MBRPLD's Promising Leaders Program. The primary objective of the PDP is to improve the capacity of individuals to understand what and how they are learning, and to review, plan and take responsibility for their own learning.

The PDP will run for five days involving some 70 participants of the Promising Leaders Program, which is a level of MBRPLD that aims to prepare a vital, elite and strategic professional manpower reserve that is capable of sustaining the leadership requirements of Dubai Government in line with its strategic plan and international and regional aspirations.

"Effective leadership requires the ability to distinguish one's strong points as well as areas that need improvement. The Personal Development Program helps the participants to evaluate themselves and in the process be able to develop their inner strength and character. Ultimately, we want the participants to learn from their own experiences and direct their future plans based on this acquired knowledge," said Adel Al Shared, Director, MBRPLD.

PDP has been designed to educate participants in effective thought processes, strategic planning for the future, successful implementation of action plans and self-reflection on what has been learned and achieved as well as the succeeding goals. Through this activity, MBRPLD aims to help students articulate personal goals and evaluate progress towards their achievement; become more effective, independent and confident self-directed learners; understand how they are learning and relate their learning to a wider context; improve their general skills for study, career management and marketing themselves to employers; and take a positive attitude to learning throughout life, educational and career development.

MBRPLD had an auspicious launching for the Promising Leaders Program on May 4, 2008 as over 2,000 UAE nationals were short listed for the final selection process. After the stringent qualification process, only a select group of 70 young candidates were eventually admitted into the program, becoming the historic pioneering batch who will undergo a 24-month training cycle developed by MBRPLD.

The primary objectives of the Promising Leaders Program are to empower participants to develop key managerial skills and capabilities; ensure a comprehensive understanding and awareness of the government's duties; develop the participants' skills and abilities according to each job description; and develop and support in the implementation of the participants' development plans.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development (MBRPLD) is an innovative leadership program designed to develop future national leaders capable of promoting the sustainable development of the United Arab Emirates.  The long-term training program, initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, consists of four programs: Young Leaders, Promising Leaders, Government Leaders, and the Director General Majlis Program.

The MBRPLD strategy, which involves scouting the country for the most promising young nationals and preparing them to take charge of the UAE's future development initiatives, has been widely recognized for its critical role in the professional development of current government leaders.  The program has recently been bolstered by alliances with world-class institutions Duke Corporate Education and INSEAD, the business school of the world, in a move to further develop MBRPLD's comprehensive training schedule and expand its educational resources.

The program was launched in 2003 according to a long-term multi-tiered plan to ensure the ongoing development of leaders in all governmental institutions; to ensure the development of leaders with world-class skills and expertise; to increase the ability to retain highly qualified employees; and to make good use of the experience and potential of current leaders.
