INJAZ Bahrain and HSBC have once again partnered up to deliver the “More than Money” program, marking 12 years of partnership between the two entities. The successful “More than Money” program provides Bahrain’s youth with basic financial literacy skills. The initiative provides engaging and academically enriching learning sessions in economic education. Over the past eleven years, more than 20,854 Bahraini intermediate students have benefited from the program. More than 2154 young Bahraini students from 32 intermediate schools have benefited from the program during the academic year 2018-2019 alone.
The program was delivered by 77 dedicated volunteers who shared their professional knowledge and experience with the students to prepare them for success in the real world. The program focuses on educating intermediate students about earning, spending, sharing and saving money. The program also encourages students to use innovative thinking while developing money-management skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations.
Mardhya Aarf Hussain, a student from Isa Town Primary Intermediate Girls School shared her experience in the program, saying: “I learned quite a lot from the program on how to save money, plan ahead and stop spending on unnecessary items. I also learned how to think more like an aspiring entrepreneur.”.
Maryam Sanad, a teaching volunteer commented on the initiative: “Volunteering with the “More than Money” program has provided many students with the financial knowledge of how to save and manage money and manage their expenses. The program has helped our students foster an understanding of how to start their own businesses by understanding basic financial principles and taking the right steps towards in achieving financial independence. For me, volunteering provides a great opportunity to give back to the community.”
Maryam Al Mutawa, Coordinator at Um Kalthoom Primary Intermediate Girls School also shared her thoughts: “Building upon the talents of students in various fields will help the students prepare for their future careers. Our aim is to provide a deeper understanding of business and fund management, so students will be able to better manage their futures with imperative planning skills. We are grateful to INJAZ Bahrain for offering our students this opportunity and to all the volunteers who graciously offer their time and patience to our next generation of leaders.”
The joint initiative began in 2008 when HSBC Holdings teamed up with INJAZ Bahrain’s parent organization Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide to sponsor and implement “More than Money” program around the world.
