PARIS - Axalto, formerly known as Schlumberger Smart Cards and Terminals, today announced that its e-gate technology has been integrated in the RSA Security Inc. global portfolio of strong authentication solutions. Selected by RSA Security in its USB key format, the e-gate technology by Axalto provides RSA Security with the opportunity to add into its RSA SecurID 6100 Token all the benefits of a multi-application smart card without the need for a reader, and bring to the market a secure, portable, easy-to-deploy device.
Cyberflex e-gate smart card is unique for its built-in support of the USB protocol embedded directly in the chip, which makes e-gate the first and unique smart card communicating with personal computers without any reader. As USB has become the de-facto standard for communication between peripherals and computers, e-gate is perfectly positioned to meet today's needs for an easy-to-use and portable device for the authentication of corporate and consumer users. As a multi-applicative Java-based smart card, the Cyberflex e-gate integrated by RSA Security as RSA SecurID 6100 Token, goes even further and provides additional services: user's profile stored on the card for e-commerce, personal bank details stored on the smart card safe, loyalty programs.
"RSA Security sees in the e-gate technology a major improvement in smart cards/tokens for authentication solution," according to Jason Lewis, vice-president of product management and marketing at RSA Security. "RSA SecurID products are already deployed within major corporations, top tier banks and the USB features brought by e-gate will ease deployments and improve the Return On Investment of our clients."
"Axalto is proud to capitalize on RSA Security's knowledge in the security arena," comments Laurent Vieille, access market segment manager at Axalto. "We believe the RSA SecurID solution will provide a major boost to the fast-growing market for securing network access via portable tokens as it addresses the key concerns of organizations looking for strong networks security: roll-out complexity and return on investment."
Product information
e-gate is the USB smart card technology developed by Axalto that integrates the USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface electronics onto the chip, eliminating the need for a card reader and a separate power supply, as well as driver software installation and set-up. e-gate enables a smart card/token to simply plug into the standard USB port supplied on today's PCs and most of computer devices, and can work with any smart card operating system including Java and Cryptoflex.
Fully compatible with conventional ISO readers, e-gate additionally takes full advantage of the fast communication speeds offered by USB, an increasingly important feature for applications such as secure one-to-one internet services where a card needs to hold or encrypt extensive amounts of data.
The RSA SecurID 6100 USB Token solution is designed to enable organizations to integrate two-factor authentication and digital certificates transparently into their identity and access management infrastructure, building trust into their e-business environment. The RSA SecurID 6100 USB Token solution is a versatile authentication device that provides one of the most secure, Java-based repositories for the storage and usage of RSA SecurID token seeds and digital credentials. Without compromising authentication strength, the solution is engineered to be user friendly and infrastructure light - which can speed deployment and reduce common helpdesk calls.
The RSA SecurID 6100 USB Token solution is designed to plug easily into the USB port of many PCs, empowering users with a single device that can be used to authenticate to protected applications. The solution is designed to be easily extended to address any organization's future requirements, such as employee loyalty programs, e-purse applications, and middleware functionality enhancements, with the simple addition of Java applets.
