Renowned panelists and speakers at the symposium offered rich insights into real-world challenges in the education sector and means to tackle them through informative workshops. Prominent speakers included Laila Alyammahi, Arabic language teacher and winner of the Mohamed bin Zayed Award for Best GCC Teacher, Abu Saleh Luqman, Head of Research and Translation at SEDRA Foundation, Dr Muhamed Al-Khalil, Associate Professor of Practice of Arabic Language at New York University Abu Dhabi, Maya Abu Al-Hayat, Poet and children’s story writer, Jenan Sartawi, Head of Arabic studies- Taaleem School, and Wedad Al Najdi, Head of Content at Abjadiyat.
One of the main themes for the symposium explored how to develop interactive and engaging content for non-native and native speakers that caters to the UAE national framework. The workshops also dove into the importance of creative stories in teaching reading, measuring students’ performance with digital tests, and more technical topics such as the science behind teaching reading and neurolinguistic programming for early language learners.
Dr. Saleh Al Hashemi, the CEO of Algorythma, the end-to-end technology company sponsoring Abjadiyat, said: “The wise leadership of the UAE has always been determined to preserve and heighten the status of the Arabic language worldwide, through its continuous efforts to hold regional and international cultural initiatives, as well as its dedication towards defining future visions, including Vision 2021. Under the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed, and in line with the country’s efforts to support the Arabic language, we strive at Abjadiyat to build the foundations of the Arabic language from the early years. We are also keen to contribute towards building rich content that aligns with the national framework of the UAE and caters to the digital advancements of the fourth industrial revolution.”
Commenting on the Loghati symposium, Jumana Salem, Head of Abjadiyat, said: “We are exhilarated by the overwhelming success of the symposium. It would not have been possible if it were not for the UAE’s dedication towards equipping young learners with the means to improve their capabilities in the Arabic language. The country’s wise leadership has been persistent in encouraging Arabic literacy amongst youth, with many major initiatives and festivals held throughout the year. Schools play a central role in igniting the zest for Arabic, and that is why we are working alongside school leaders to push forward the wise leadership’s vision.”
“We foresee a lot more for Abjadiyat in the future as we expand our solutions across leading schools in the region as well as to Arabic language learners in the USA and Western Europe. This symposium is a testament to our commitment to equipping students with the oral and written language confidence to apply 21st-century skills. By building a strong foundation during their early years, we can rest assured that the groundwork is done for our future leaders,” she added.
Three writers were awarded at the Loghati symposium for participating at a creative writing competition for writing a children’s story for three age groups (ages four to six, six to eight, and eight to ten). Each winner for each category will have their story published within Abjadiyat’s platform, for one year.
