Renowned international fashion designer Alejandro Resta is planning to create ‘Spanish abayas’ in Doha as part of his new collection.

Resta was one of the 12 celebrity designers taking part in Shop Qatar’s International Fashion Show at Mondrian Doha yesterday. He showcased 15 outfits highlighting Spanish fashion and culture.

The designer said he wants to introduce new colours such as white and blue for the Arabian dress. But he wants to keep the new design of ‘Spanish abayas’ confidential until its unveiling day. Resta also mulls opening a boutique in Doha in the future due to the increasing inquiries from guests who are interested in his ready couture.

“At the moment we do have retailers interested to show my work and probably very soon we will open a corner in one of the boutiques, and hopefully maybe next year our goal is to open our own boutique in Qatar,” he added.

Many Qatari fashion designers and enthusiasts have been following Resta on social media especially on Instagram and snap chat. Many of these designers, as well as fashion students from different universities, took part in Resta’s three-day certified masterclass in Doha (January 21 to 23) to learn various design techniques. In his first visit in Doha in November 2016, Resta said he enjoyed the company of talented student designers who were passionate to pursue their career.

About Shop Qatar and the fashion show, he stressed that they felt well supported by Qatar Tourism Authority and its partners.

Organisers expressed optimism that this edition of Shop Qatar will exceed the accomplishments of the event last year due to the positive response of the public and various sectors since the opening. According to QTA’s tourism events and festival organisation section head Alshaima Alshaikh, most of the activities at various locations have been getting huge number of attendees.

It is learnt that few tickets are left for the Chainsmokers concert, scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre from 7.30pm. Shop Qatar is also set to pick the next batch of winners at the raffle draw today (January 25) at Tawar Mall. At least 13 cash prizes ranging from QR10,000 to QR100,000 and two BMW cars are at stake.
