AMMAN — The Sunday mass will be suspended in churches located in Marka, Ashrafieh, Al Musdar, Downtown Amman and Jabal Al Taj as of Sunday, a measure to protect worshippers amid the increase in coronavirus infections in the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The government will implement the decision in coordination with the Jordan Churches Council. The move came in line with the government’s new mechanism based on the suspension of certain activities and the closure of some sectors in regions where infections were registered.

The decision is an alternative step to the total closure policy, Petra said. Prayers and religious rites will be held as usual as for the rest of the Kingdom’s churches and places of worship.

The government emphasised the need to abide by all preventive measures, notably physical distancing, wearing face masks and avoiding gatherings, Petra reported.
