MAKKAH — The director of Ikram association for food preservation in Makkah, Ahmed Al-Matrafi, has confirmed that surplus food in Makkah during 2022 amounted to SR70 million after being converted into main food for needy people in the region.

He said that the association seeks to enhance food security, while reducing wasting of food. Ikram has sorted about 3.5 tons of surplus food.

The sorted surplus food was distributed to about 19 million people, instead of wasting them, he said.

It is noteworthy that Ikram association has achieved more than 9,000 tours, while using 60 vehicles, with the aim of converting the surplus food into a safe source of food for the needy people in Makkah.
