ArabFinance: Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population plans to boost the number of beds in intensive care units (ICUs) by 77% to reach 7,253 during fiscal year (FY) 2020/2021, Al Borsa News reported on October 24th.

This is compared to the 4,107 ICU beds registered in public hospitals during FY 2019/2020, the news portal cited an unnamed government official.

The government, in addition, intends to raise the number of incubators by 8% to 5,294 in FY 2020/2021, compared to 4,894 in the previous FY.

Public hospitals will witness a surge of 87% in the number of beds for children in the current FY to stand at 966, compared to 517 beds in FY 2019/2020, according to the source.

An Emirati foundation has recently supported a medical center in Egypt to build and fully equip a pediatric ICU.
