RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court on Sunday called on all Muslims in the Kingdom to look on Tuesday, Sha’ban 29, corresponding to March 21, for the crescent moon, signaling the holy month of Ramadan.

The Supreme Court urged that people, who see it with the naked eye or through binoculars, to inform the nearest court to record their testimony there, or contact the nearest town center to help it communicate with the nearest court.

In the event of not sighing the moon on Tuesday evening, the faithful will start observing the fasting on Thursday, March 23, after completing 30 days of Sha’ban, following the Tradition of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

According to the official Umm Al-Qura calendar, the fasting month of Ramadan is expected to begin on Thursday, March 23, when Muslims will practice fasting from dawn until dusk.

In a statement, the Supreme Court hoped that those who are interested in sighting the crescent moon to join the committees formed in various regions for this purpose and take part in this activity in anticipation of reward from God for their cooperation in righteousness and piety, benefitting all Muslims.
