RIYADH – The Personal Status Court in Riyadh has displayed a significant improvement in performance by handling 75 percent of backlog in a matter of 20 working days.

The president of the court, Sheikh Saad Al-Saif, said the results were positive, despite an increase in the number of cases reaching the court.

He pointed out that 60,901 cases filed at the Personal Status Court in 2014, while this number rose to 70,631 in 2015 and 73,495 so far this year.

Al-Saif said he expected the efficiency in the handling of family and inheritance dispute to increase by more than 50 percent compared to last year.

He said the court was seeking to develop a mechanism for the speedy issuance of initial verdicts in family disputes within a few days of receiving complaints.

Al-Saif said the number of cases doubled in recent months compared to last year.

“This large increase in achievement reveals the extent of the public›s trust in judges of the court in fulfilling their responsibility by investigating cases and administering justice in a fair and transparent manner,” he said.

He stressed the important role of specialized NGOs and charitable organizations related to family disputes in raising awareness about respect for human rights as well as the values of reconciliation in society.
