ABU DHABI -- The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence (ADCD) has set up a technical committee to tour the Security and Safety Middle East 2005 Conference and Exhibition, currently underway at the Abu Dhabi General Exhibitions Centre, and gain first-hand information about the latest equipment available.

The committee -- comprising experts from the police, headed by Lieutenant-Colonel Humaid Saeed -- will then present a report to that effect to the Civil Defence Authority for consideration. The move is aimed at uplifting the standards of the civil defence by providing the latest equipment for better performance in fire-fighting and related accidents with utmost efficiency.

In a statement, Brigadier Salim Awad Abdoun, Director of Civil Defence, who set up the committee, said his department was taking part in the exhibition with a pavilion under the aegis of the interior ministry.

"We are putting on show a number of equipment and vehicles which we rebuilt according to the latest international specifications in our technical workshop in Abu Dhabi," he said, adding that the vehicles include accident reconnaissance vehicles, operations room safety equipment, rescue equipment, ambulance and fire engine that operate automatically when fire broke out.

He disclosed that more civil defence stations were being set up in the cities and outskirts of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region. He said more mobile ladders, including some with a maximum height of 60 metres.
