CAIRO, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- Al-Salemia Sporting Club has a three-year plan to develop skills of young table tennis players, in order to prepare them to become the club's front line in the game, member of the board at the club Jawad Al-Ghareeb said on Monday.
In statements to KUNA, Al-Ghareeb, who heads Al-Salemia's delegation in the training camp here, said that the camp's goal was to set up players for upcoming local and other tournaments.
Al-Salemia will participate in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) championship in Bahrain from 4-7 September, 2007, in addition to the Arab championship that will start on October 27, Al-Ghareeb said.
The club had won the last GCC championship, which was held in Saudi Arabia.
As for the camp, Al-Ghareeb noted that a number of trial matches took place between Salemia players and players from Egyptian clubs such as Al-Ahli. The Kuwaiti sportsman spoke well of the well-equipped Ahli play court, which includes more than 40 tennis tables.
Due to intensive training, that could reach six to seven hours a day, some players suffered minor injuries and muscle cramps, Al-Ghareeb noted, adding that the team's physician was taking care of the players.
