SALALAH -- The Directorate-General of Health Services in the Governorate of Dhofar yesterday organised a seminar on Salalah City health project at Crowne Plaza Resort in collaboration with the health committee in the wilayat of Salalah and World Health Organisation (WHO) office in the Sultanate.
Sheikh Said bin Ahmed Al Shanfari, board chairman of Al Shanfari Group presided over the opening ceremony in presence of Dr Ahmed bin Abdul Qadir Al Ghassani, Health Ministry undersecretary for health affairs, a number of government officials and directors of health services in the wilayats of the Governorate of Dhofar.
Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Mashaikhi, director-general of health services in the Governorate of Dhofar in his speech stated that the seminar is aimed at familiarising the concept of health cities, pattern on healthy life, highlighting the significance of the health project in Salalah City in achieving overall health, environmental, social and economical developments in Salalah.
He said the Ministry of Health in collaboration with WHO and the concerned ministries is sponsoring these health projects, across the Sultanate in Sur town, Quriyat, Qalhat, Nizwa, Sohar, Muscat and Salalah.
Health projects are good example of human resources development, he said, adding that the project, most probably will include Salalah as a whole.
Dr Al Fateh A'samani, representative of WHO in the Sultanate presented a working paper entitled 'Improvement of living health'.
Dr Salah Al Badawi, Society of Associate expert at Health Ministry presented a working paper on 'Concepts of healthy life patterns'. Dr Halima Al Hinai, head of social initiatives department at the Health Ministry presented a working paper on the same topic.
Dr Mahmoud Shaban, public health expert at the Directorate-General of Health Services in the Governorate of Dhofar presented a working paper on 'Endemic situation and health of population in Salalah town'.
The Salalah Municipality presented a working paper on 'Problems and challenges facing the Salalah City'. It was presented by Salim bin Abdullah Al Shanfari, director of Health Affairs Depart-ment at the Directorate-General of Salalah Munici-pality.
Salim bin Ahmed Sakron, head of Water and Soil Pollution Department at the Directorate-General of Environment and Water Resources in the Dhofar Governorate presented a working paper on the environmental situation in Salalah.
The seminar aims at familiarising concerned authorities in the Dhofar Governorate with society initiatives and improving of health patterns, discuss and coordinate with those responsible for preparations made to execute Salalah health project.
The seminar also aims to familiarise the local society with the concept of healthier city, improvement in public health and environment in Salalah.
