MUSCAT -- The eagerly awaited Oman Economic Review (OER) Corporate Challenge that pits together the mental and physical prowess of some of Oman's top corporations was jointly inaugurated by Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Sports Affairs, at the Oman Dive Centre, Qantab, yesterday.
Ambassadors and dignitaries from the public and private sectors attended this pioneering event, which began with the symbolic torch lighting of the inaugural flame by His Highness Sayyid Tarik bin Shabib al Said, Editor-in-Chief, OER, together with the ministers. This was followed by the kicking-off of the event (quite literally kicking a football) by Dr Amar Abass, Managing Director, Oman Mobile and Justin Barnett, General Manager of Zubair Automotive.
HH Sayyid Tarik expressed his appreciation to all participants and supporting corporations. The General Manager of United Media Service, Sandeep Sehgal, said, "cutting across corporate hierarchies and diversities of gender and age, we present for the first time to the corporate world of Oman a pioneering event that we hope will get bigger, stronger and better with every passing year."
Twenty-six of the country's leading corporations are taking part in four competing groups, each vying for the chance of winning the coveted OER Corporate Challenge trophy. Each team endeavours to knock out its competitors through the incorporation of special tactics and stratagems. The two-day outdoor competition matches include five-a-side football, beach volleyball, relay races, tug-of-war and camp-up, towering objectives, memory check and quiz.
