ArabFinance: Misr El Kheir Foundation has finished its first phase of supporting Fayoum Oncology Center which aims to providing integrated healthcare services while reducing the financial, health and social burden on cancer patients in all of North-Upper Egypt governorates and the suburbs of Giza.

Misr El Kheir foundation has managed to purchase and assemble the interventional radiology catheter’s parts; while developing an action plan to be implemented in the second phase, which will include several kinds of support, the most important of which is cancer treatment for beneficiaries within the therapeutic aid program.

The campaign comes under the positive cooperation and participation of the media anchor Sherif Madkour as the campaign ambassador, enabling the community members to integrate and participate in making a positive change to help the most deserving patients.

The media anchor Sherif Madkour has become a symbol of cancer fighting, after his challenging experience in fighting colon cancer, which manifested a success story in his confrontation and ability to get rid of the negative psychological consequences accompanied with the disease. Accordingly, Sherif has turned out to be a support icon for everyone facing such disease.

Misr El Kheir’s campaign aims to raise preventive awareness and promote cancer early detection, in addition to providing psychological and moral support to all the cancer fighters in Fayoum Oncology Center and Egypt’s governorates.

Mrs. Afaf Gohary, Director of Health scope - Misr El Kheir Foundation, stated: “Supporting Fayoum Oncology Center is one of Misr Elkheir’s steps in supporting several governmental centers and hospitals; which falls under the Health scope’s objectives that go hand in hand with the health care services provided by all entities in the country”.

El-Gohary added that the medical services that the Fayoum Oncology Center provided in the governorates of North-Upper Egypt, is of great importance in fighting cancer in each of the targeted geographical areas. in which most of the patients diagnosed with cancer in several spots need radiation therapy while there are only 70 interventional radiology catheter units in Egypt, which creates a huge gap since patients need more than 160 units.

The problem is that there are no 69 devices nationwide, and patients need more than 160 devices and as such in the first stage to support the oncology center in Fayoum. The patient needs 30 to 60 radiotherapy sessions, the capacity of the device 80 sessions per day, which will help in the treatment of the largest number of patients per day. The unit is ready to start work next year.

It is worth mentioning that Misr El Kheir Foundation supports the Fayoum Oncology Center as a completion of the first phase, which included the purchase and assembly of the interventional radiology catheter unit’s parts, which cost about 35 million Egyptian pounds. The unit is considered as one of the newest available radiological devices in the field of radiation therapy for tumors, enabling it to work very accurately in targeting only cancer cells without affecting the healthy ones.
