AMMAN (JT) -- Chairman of the Jordanian Businessmen Association Hamdi Tabbaa on Wednesday received Indian Charge d'Affaires Francis Xaxa for a review of Jordanian -- Indian economic relations. Tabbaa briefed the envoy on the incentives offered to investors in Jordan and the trading facilities resulting from the trade agreement between Jordan and the European Union and the Free Trade Agreement with United States. The JBA last year signed a memorandum of understanding with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Trade and Industry and Indian investment in Jordan is worth JD31 million, according to the JBA.

India has stakes in the phosphoric acid plant and a number of textile and garment factories at the Al Hassan Industrial Estate near Irbid. India is considered a key trading partner with Jordan, importing phosphate, fertilisers and potash to a total of JD60.3 million in 2003. Last year, India exported to Jordan JD141 million worth of goods including spices, tea, sesame, meat and motor vehicles.
